Body Soul Sundays

Body Soul Sundays is an intensive monthly program of immersion in the mysteries of the deep feminine. Women today do not have the ancient Eleusinian or Dionysian mystery rites to support us as we ripen into life. In our longing for eternal youth, we may miss the beauty of our soul’s journey. We have no time for the soulwork required of us, no time to feel the archetypal energies of Mother, Virgin, and Crone ripple through our bodies and souls. Sometimes we may feel that we are full of unlived life.

With the ancient and beautiful myth of Demeter and Persephone as the ground of our exploration, we will embark on a symbolic journey to the mother-daughter mysteries at the heart of our own lives, and ponder what it means for us, as women today –

• To lose what is most precious to us and wander the Earth for nine days, inconsolable with grief, as Demeter

• To be dragged into the Underworld by Hades, cut off from everything we have known and loved, as Kore

• To bear witness to the anguish of Demeter and Kore at the crossroads of two worlds, as Hecate

• To return from the Underworld transformed and know, for the first time, who we are, as Persephone

During this workshop cycle we will enter the realm of soul-making – through myth and ritual, dreamwork and writing, music and movement, art and voicework, poetry and psychodrama. Readings from Jung will provide a solid grounding for our experiential work, and films on Marion Woodman will bring her Crone presence into the group.

Please Note: This is an experiential and psycho-educational program, but it is not therapy, and is not appropriate for anyone in psychiatric distress. The facilitators will be present to each individual in the group, however participants are expected to maintain responsibility for their own process.

This program is conceived as a container for ongoing inner work. Each participant is asked to make a commitment to her own soulwork through journal writing, dreamwork, art, movement, music, or other creative expression. Guidance will be offered according to each month’s focus, and printed handouts will be available. It is important that the process of creative gestation continues between meetings and that the soul is nurtured.
