Walking the Tightrope: The Jung-Nietzsche Seminars as Taught by Marion Woodman-Seminar 2

Marian Dunlea, Sheila Langston and Patricia Llosa
April 9-12, 2015

A Marion Woodman Foundation Seminar in cooperation with the European Ongoing Professional Development Group

Body work, like dream work, is soul work. Body and dream illuminate the point where spirit and matter touch and do not touch”   Marion Woodman

In this, our second Woodman Nietzsche Seminar, we will continue to delve into Jung’s Nietzsche seminars as well as Marion Woodman’s teachings from the Walking the Tightrope study guide. We will study and discuss these written sources and continue the process of integrating the text with the voice and body work.

Our exploration of shadow and archetype will expand to include the metaphors of the eagle and the snake, the transformational sequence of the camel, lion and child as well as the development from “thou shalt” to “I will” in the individuation process. The afternoon work will focus on the Dance of Three exercise as we explore the triad of Mover, Mirror and Container together, pursuing the question of the relationship between body and psyche in the Nietzsche seminars.

Shakespeare’s the Tempest! Playing With the Play: An Experiential and Improvisational Workshop

Ann Skinner and Meg Wilbur
November 14-19, 2014

A letter from Ann Skinner and Meg Wilbur

If you have loved BodySoul Rhythms® over the years, you will love this opportunity to continue your inner journey, this time through the magical vessel of theater, a core element of BodySoul Rhythms®. We invite you to join us in the adventure of “play”, where exploring another “character” becomes the avenue to self discovery. As with the masks, this is a call to unexplored areas within, whose energies and psychology can be surprising and liberating.

There is no need for theater background, as there is no performance; no need for “actors” except as we are all “actors” of our own lives. Instead there are Shakespeare’s powerful characters, his evocative language – and the magic of this unique journey. Imagine a storm tossed island, where strange creatures dwell. A shipwreck, a lost magician Duke, his languishing daughter, a strange man-beast, an elfin sprite!

“This island is full of noises.” Imagine exploring the coves and forest groves of this dreamland with us, freeing your own “Caliban beast”, flying with the sprite Ariel, seeking your own “Prospero wisdom”. What might these energies be within you? What surprises lie hidden in the caves?

As always, there will be opportunity for dream work, enriched by our sojourn, as well as poetry and art. Our focus will be a deep immersion in embodied sound, word, image – all avenues to soul, to healing, and to enlarging, ex-pressing!

Come play with us on Miranda’s enchanted island!

Ann and Meg

MWF-BSE Intensive Renewal 2014: Re-Newing Our Relationship to the Shadow

Marian Dunlea, Mary Hamilton, and Ann Skinner
September 6-12, 2014

The original work of BSR® was to awaken consciousness of shadow material in order to release energies of the Soul.

In the Intensives, the Jung/Woodman models of the psyche, dreams, body/voice, mask, and artwork facilitate the emergence of shadow and the beginning of its integration with the Self.

Renewal was intended as a time for those already practiced in these basic tenets of BSR® to deepen their experience and to recognize the evolution of the shadow figure or material already in consciousness as evidenced by the mask.

To confront a person with her shadow is to show her her own light.  (“Good and Evil in Analytical Psychology” (1959). In CW 10. Civilization in Transition. P.872)

In this workshop we will be re-newing our relationship to the Shadow.

• Choose to work with one of your masks to experience the shadow material “newly”.

• Choose to make a “new” mask of shadow – one knocking at the door of consciousness.

• Work with your mask of presence and your shadow mask creating a conversation between the stillpoint and your shadow figure.

In this way, we will “re-new” our connection to the Shadow by exploring and integrating its ever-revealing energy. We will listen to the dream’s resonance in the body, tracking where the energy wants to go.  A soul’s journey is never done – vulnerable, spiritual, human being always.

With enthusiasm and love, we invite you to join us in the work and in the play learn the facts here now.

Where the Water Meets the Sky: Illuminating the Unique Partnership of the Feminine and the Masculine

Marian Dunlea, Sheila Langston, and Sue Congram
July 7-14, 2014

“There’s a point at which one must start caring
Where one fixes one’s vision on high
Don a mantle of vision and daring
Tis where the water meets the sky.”
– David Whalen

The pathway toward wholeness requires a consciousness of both the feminine and the masculine. How do these energies move both in the body and in the psyche? With a focus on the inner relationship between the feminine and the masculine in this intensive, we will explore how these opposites move us and guide us both in the outer world, and in our relationships.

We will work with dreams, myth, mask-making, the body, voice and art. Through these varied means, we will discover the lived experience of these forces of the feminine and the masculine.  We will meet the changing faces of the archetypes in each of us, in our dreams, in our art, and in our bodies.  What is the feminine and masculine in the voice, what different movements convey expression from both partners? How does one support the other?  How are they culturally viewed and how has that shaped each of us as we are today?

The myth of Amor and Psyche will provide us with a mirror and a map.  In Psyche, we see a heroine who has to complete a series of impossible tasks on her quest for wholeness. We will consider these tasks in the light of the feminine and masculine energies within us.  Discovering how these energies meet and part in the body, as well as in the psyche, brings us towards the possibility of a new partnership in the dance between the two.

Walking the Tightrope: The Jung-Nietzsche Seminars as Taught by Marion Woodman, Seminar 1

Marian Dunlea, Patricia Llosa, and Sheila Langston
April 10-13, 2014

This program is a Marion Woodman Foundation Seminar in cooperation with the European Ongoing Professional Development Group

Let’s look at the image of the tightrope. Can you visualize that tightrope and envision yourself walking on it? Ask yourself, what tightrope do you walk every day?” Marion Woodman, Seminar One

In this advanced seminar we will combine work with two textual sources- C.G. Jung’s Nietzsche Seminars from 1934 and the Marion Woodman Foundation’s publication of Walking the Tightrope. The study of these texts will be integrated with the practice of the core exercises presented in the BodySoul Rhythms® Intensives in order to deepen the understanding of the participants who are already familiar with the BodySoul Rhythms® work. This material brings into focus the role of the body in bringing the operations of the unconscious psyche to consciousness.

Wellsprings of Feminine Renewal X: The Seasons of a Woman’s Life: Mother, Daughter, Adult Woman, Crone

Meg Wilbur, Tina Stromsted, and Dorothy Anderson
November 4-10, 2013

“Every mother contains her daughter in herself and every daughter her mother — every woman extends backward into her mother and forward into her daughter”.   CG Jung

This fall, as autumn leaves turn to gold, we invite you to join us at beautiful La Casa de Maria. A sacred retreat center, it offers soulful renewal with its gardens, fountains, labyrinth, and woodland walks. Here, in celebration of a decade of Wellsprings, we will explore the ancient, yet compelling story of Demeter and Persephone. This tale of the deep feminine is a myth for all time and for all women.

As our avenue into the psyche, this living myth illuminates the very matrix of our lives, that first relationship between mother and daughter. It is the primal ground from which we all emerge, physically, emotionally, and psychically. This story reveals the passages we each face in our personal journey toward individuation.

We will see how our naive ‘maiden’ must separate from her identity with ‘mother’ — a separation which often thrusts us into an initiatory descent into an “underworld” experience of “hades.” There we encounter our shadow, and engage our ‘opposite’ — the masculine (inner and/or outer). Only after navigating this cycle, sometimes repeatedly, may we discard our persona masks, and find in our mirror the face of our Adult Woman, she who is our authentic self, she who carries the seeds of our Crone.

How do we allow the mother in us to release, help the daughter in us to develop, and embody our wise old woman? We may share belly laughs with the ribald goddess Baubo – and seek wisdom from fiery Hekate at her crossroads. Meeting these figures in the past shaped our metal. Can they help us now to realize our inner “Persephone,” Queen of light and dark who is at home in both realms? A vital woman, she is One-in- herself, living her seasons with grace.

This intensive offers the chance to revisit the universal pilgrimage from innocence to womanhood to crone-hood. As we retrace our personal journey, we seek its hidden meaning and treasures — and also discover where we perhaps got lost, or abandoned those treasures. We can celebrate ourselves as survivors — and also affirm ourselves as seekers in this present season of our lives.

This myth brings us full circle, to the very core of BodySoul work. For 2000 years it was the basis for rituals held at Eleusis in Greece. Today our modern intensives follow this ancient arc of feminine initiation, of descent and renewal. We will engage the guidance of the unconscious through dreams, bodily states, discussion, and creativity. Authentic Movement helps us connect with buried energies and open to our inner dance. Simple, playful vocal explorations help release our true voice through relaxation, breathing, and sounding. The approach is attuned to the individual, and does not involve performance. Enhanced by music and the arts, these dynamic processes support self-discovery, integration, and individuation in a safe and nurturing space.

It is fitting that we come full circle, because, as the seasons turn, this will be the last Wellsprings of Feminine Renewal. We as facilitators find that after more than ten years, our own “seasons” too are shifting, and our energies are drawn in new directions. While this intensive may hold the sadness of endings, of winter — it will also bring the celebration of Persephone’s return from the underworld, ushering in sunlight and flowers. We invite you to join us in seeking renewal, and discovering that even in the midst of winter there is within us an eternal spring!

Old and new participants will be warmly welcomed to this ‘last Wellsprings dance’. Please note that enrollment is limited and early application is strongly recommended.

Thank you for your interest in this program. This program is now full.  If you would like to be placed on a waiting list, please email the Marion Woodman Foundation Program Office at office@mwoodmanfoundation.org with your name, phone number and program that you are interested in.  PLEASE DO NOT TRY TO SEND MONEY AT THIS TIME. BodySoul Community Conference 2013: Meeting the World: Living the Questions

Conference Organizers: Carol Jacobs, Heather Miller, Madeleine O’Callaghan and Keren Vishny
October 17-20, 2013

From our conversations with many of the women who attended the first conference, we have the sense that it was a milestone in our development as a community. Mayn commented on the wealth of wisdom, talent and experience within the community, and were inspried by the diversity of programming created by BodySoul women. We also received helpful feedback.

In building the second conference, we have tried to take these suggestions into account and also to be aware of new energies and directions in the community go to these guys. This has resulted in the development of a conference with a somewhat different feel. We have aimed for a conference that is more interactive and spacious, with a gentler pace.

We believe that this conference, while different, will be equally important in the unfolding life of the BodySoul Community. Where the Water Meets the Sky: Illuminating the Unique Partnership of the Feminine and the Masculine

July 23-30, 2013

“There’s a point at which one must start caring

In the Realms of Coatlicue: A BodySoul Intensive in Mexico

Mary Hamilton, Paula Reeves, Martha de la Garza, and Patricia Llosa
February 8-15, 2013

You are invited to explore the archetypal dimensions of your unique narrative within the framework of myth and fairy tale and the landscape of Mexico; the realms of Coatlicue. This work is based on the belief that psyche and soma, body and soul are one, and must be worked on together to become more conscious.  We will explore our own bodysoul by linking the worlds of dreams and body imagery, through natural movement, music, art, lecture, and discussion. This process enlarges our understanding of what it means to consciously embody the Sacred Feminine.

We will spend the week together, away from the usual demands of our everyday life and cradled under the majestic heights of the sacred Tepozteco Mountain.  In this peaceful setting, surrounded by rich vegetation, working individually and together, each participant will listen to her soul in her body and honor its needs, hopes, and creativity to discover and voice her authentic self.  We welcome all our past participants and hope that you will spread the word to your friends and colleagues as new participants are most warmly welcomed as well. We hope you will join us.
