In Defense of Nature: Embodied Presence Lived

Christine Zecca

October 01, 2017 - October 06, 2017

Princeville, HI, United States

This work is a creative melding of C. G. Jung’s and Marion Woodman’s BodySoul work with ancient methods of exploring NOR (non ordinary reality) that support us in accessing our ability to live meaningful authentic lives.

This retreat is an attempt to reconnect with the ancient practices of our ancestors, which requires being grounded in both realities. One foot here rooted in the natural world by fine tuning our five physical senses to the present, and the other foot grounded in the invisible realms through contact with our invisible senses that support us in this endeavor. All cultures have these ways of being at their roots. It is an expression of who we are as human beings, but for many of us we have become disconnected from these ancient wisdom traditions.

As people who are now finding connections to many different cultures due to the strains of climate change on the movement of people from all parts of the world, it behoves us to aim for feeling at home in this diversity of cultures. Our homecoming is in the realm of the soul, whose doorway is the open heart. Of course it is essential that we are rooted in this material world that is an expression of the elements that make up the physical world, but that does not mean we stay ignorant of the Imaginal World that supports it. Our bodies are what connect us to both of these worlds. Our bodily experiences form a bridge to the other world, the world behind the world that can be invisible to those who have grown up in our quite limited western paradigm. This lack of connection to NOR severs our relationship to the wonders of the ineffable that are all around us hidden just beyond the veil and invisible to the unaccustomed eye.

As we are located on Kaua’i, the Garden Island of Hawai’i we will explore the verdant nature that holds us in Her embrace on the North Shore that is so lush. We will experientially become familiar with the Tripartate Soul of the Ancient Hawaiians: the BodySoul or Ku, the MentalSoul or Lono, and the OverSoul or Aumakua. Discovering the balance between the BodySoul and the MentalSoul is what gives us access to the OverSoul, our Immortal Soul, or the Self of Jung’s depth psychology. This deep wisdom place is the crucial piece that points us in the direction of our authenticity and genius in this particular precious life.

Prerequisites:

· A history of inner work grounded in the body
· A willingness to explore unchartered territories both within and in NOR
· A willingness to work with the shadow
· A willingness to open the heart to the other

Schedule

Daily sessions will be from Monday through Friday, October 2-6, 2017

Mornings-9:00am to 12 noon: Ceremony & meditations, dream sharing, musings on projections and shadow, learning the topography of the invisible realms that support us behind the veil, and journey work

Break-12:00 to 3:00pm: Participants may have their lunch breaks, explore surroundings and complete various shamanic assignments regarding the natural surroundings, the elementals (stone, earth, water, fire & nature), awakening the senses and acquainting ourselves with the local flora and fauna.

Afternoons-3:00 to 6:00pm:  We will regroup and share our experiences, embodied journeys, symbol/spirit helpers incorporated in movement exercises to ground these within, and creative pieces to help digest what insights have arisen out of the process.

Our last afternoon session on Friday October 6, we will create closing ceremonies to ground what we have experienced, so we can retain what we have learned in our time together. Ideally, staying for a day or two on either end would be advantageous, as it is a most relaxing and enjoyable location and will nurture the absorption of the work itself within our BodySouls.

Meals
To keep costs down no meals will be served by us, as we have very restricted diets and are a grain free household and space does not permit for many with special diets. Easy to find food is plentiful nearby in markets, small restaurants, cafes, take out places and food trucks that are all very close by. Participants with special diets may discuss possibilities, and of course if you want to remain here during the break you can place your food in our extra refrigerator in the garage and relax on one of the lanais. We have filtered water, so refilling your water bottles is quick and easy. We have many teas.

Lodging
Since we are trying to keep this retreat to maximum of 15, we are able to meet in our home in Princeville that has ocean views and is near beaches. This means outside lodging is required, however there are many local options and some very near by. Next door there is a house that rents for 5 people, (which could be an economical alternative), if we get people signed up early and I can talk with the owners and block out this time (possibly Saturday, September 30 through Friday,  October 6). We also have friends that rent rooms. I’m also looking into group rates at the nearby Westin and St Regis. There are many options. There are also sites like AirBNB, VRBO, Craigslist, etc.
