Lyric Essay Intensive

Marlene Schiwy

July 24, 2017 - July 28, 2017

Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada

The lyric essay combines elements of memoir and personal essay, poetry and sometimes scholarly research. Brenda Miller writes “What is new is not what we tell, but how we tell it. The lyric essay asks that we stay awake to the chance associations and intuitive connections that make life bearable and to create those very connections through the act of writing.” According to Jung, “Images are life,” and we will explore the themes and images that bring new life to our souls, through Proprioceptive Writing, guided visualization and dreamwork, gentle movement exploration, and DVD excerpts of Marion Woodman speaking about the importance of images in our lives. This is a beautiful and creative way to write about our lives and the wider world around us.
