“The Handless Maiden recovers the lost stages of the old initiation rites from ancient times, and as such offers a timeless and lifelong guidance for all the years of a woman’s life.”
~ Clarissa Pinkola Estes

“The Handless Maiden” is a beautiful fairy tale about the search for the missing feminine realm and our own lost creativity. In this nine month Jungian program we will draw closer to the handless maiden in ourselves, and ask, “What caused her own hands to be replaced with silver hands, and how can we help restore her human hands of flesh in order that she can live her authentic life?

Gertrud Mueller Nelson writes, “When a Handless Maiden’s fate has been replace by choice, she brings new meaning into her life. She weaves together a whole new fabric out of the bits and scraps of her haphazard and often disastrous past. Her feeling hands restored, she makes order and value of all the feelings that now flow freely from her heart.” What does this mean for women living during a chaotic period of the twenty first century?

In the course of our nine month journey we will immerse ourselves in intensive study of related readings by Marie Louise von Franz, Gertrud Mueller Nelson, Clarissa Pinkola Estes, and other Jungian writers. We will attend to our dreams and inner images and ponder the questions that will allow our hands once again to become enfleshed.

The writing component of the program will be substantial. A monthly reading list will be sent out along with weekly writing prompts and questions for reflection between sessions.

Participants should purchase a copy of Gertrud Mueller Nelson’s Here All Dwell Free; Stories to Heal the Wounded Feminine. All other program materials will be sent as pdf files.

* Psyche’s Circle is conceived as a container for ongoing inner work. Each participant is asked to make a commitment to her own soulwork through writing, dreamwork, art, movement, music, or other creative expression. Guidance will be offered according to each month’s focus. A private consultation is included in the registration fee.
