Weeklong Writing Intensive – The Lyric Essay
July 15, 2019 - July 19, 2019
Vancouver, British Columbia, Canada
Marlene Schiwy will be offering a Weeklong Summer Intensive on the Lyric Essay from July 15th – 19th. The lyric essay combines elements of memoir and personal essay, poetry, and sometimes scholarly research. This is a beautiful and creative way to write about our lives and the wider world around us. Brenda Miller writes, “What is new is not what we tell, but how we tell it. The lyric essay asks that we stay awake to the chance associations and intuitive connections that make life bearable and to create those very connections through the act of writing.” Class time will include meditations, dreamwork and active imagination, and a wide variety of writing exercises.
This workshop is open to everyone and will provide an introduction for newcomers and guidance for those already working on a lyric essay. Returning participants are welcome. There will be time for anyone who wishes, to receive feedback on your writing.
