The Dragonfly and The Labyrinth: A Journey to the Inner Landscape of Soul

Labyrinth-2011_edited-1Participants in this workshop will learn about and experience the interface between psyche and soma, the soul and the body, and how the body/soul matures in cyclical patterns and rhythms. Embodied essence, experienced in the archetypal pattern of the Labyrinth, develops along an invisible spiral rather than a single linear path.

Exploring the sensory nature modeled in the dragonfly’s pattern of transformation, participants will focus on the moment-to-moment experience of the soul’s changing landscape. Engaging tools to befriend our true selves, we may uncover an inner tenderness of compassion for self and others. This enlivening process reveals the unfolding steps of one’s life journey.

Through their combined leadership, Lauren Artress, Mary Hamilton and Barbara Susan Booth will invite participants to join them on a creative journey through dream gathering, morning talks, inwardly inspired movement, art, poetry, dance, ritual and labyrinth walking. All is peppered with humor.

The Dragonfly and the Labyrinth, co-led by Lauren and Mary along with Barbara Susan Booth, ventures into new work after a five-year hiatus. In 2010 the three worked together to offer Embodying Wisdom: The Spirituality of the Labyrintha workshop in Guelph that was also a course credit with Wisdom University in California.

This workshop combines Lauren’s international experience teaching the Labyrinth and Leadership work with BodySoul Rhythms®. Mary’s work brings together her co-creation and teaching of the BodySoul Rhythms® Program and her new work captured in her book The Dragonfly Principle. Barbara’s work brings together her leadership work with BodySoul Rhythms® and her vast experience in facilitation and the use of visual arts in opening the creative process.

Introduction to BodySoul: A Marion Woodman Foundation Seminar

with Paula Reeves and Mary Hamilton
Assistant Instructors:

Gail Grynbaum, Rea Nolan, and Vernessa Riley Foelix

April 14-18, 2014

Set at Trinity Center in Pine Knoll Shores, North Carolina, with Bogue Sound on one side and the Atlantic Ocean on the other, we are pleased to announce this brand-new seminar, an introduction to the experiential understanding of the BodySoul Rhythms® process and the pioneering work of Marion Woodman on “embodied Jung.”

In this Introduction to BodySoul we invite you to join us as we weave together a rich, colorful tapestry of myth, fairy tale, dreams, movement, voice, and the creative arts. Working with the fairy tale of Cinderella, we will explore the depth of the material in terms of our personal stories and dreams. Jung’s theory of the shadow will be explored experientially through natural movement, deep relaxation, playful voice exercises, drawing and painting, all tools to help us face and befriend unknown aspects of ourselves. The process releases untapped energy, while enriching our appreciation of who we are in our depths and heights.

This workshop will be taught by Paula Reeves, PhD, who taught annually with the original BodySoul Rhythms® team for more than 17 years, and Mary Hamilton, MEd, who was one of the three original BodySoul Rhythms® teachers/founders of BodySoul Rhythms®.

MWF-BSE Intensive Renewal 2014: Re-Newing Our Relationship to the Shadow

Marian Dunlea, Mary Hamilton, and Ann Skinner
September 6-12, 2014

The original work of BSR® was to awaken consciousness of shadow material in order to release energies of the Soul.

In the Intensives, the Jung/Woodman models of the psyche, dreams, body/voice, mask, and artwork facilitate the emergence of shadow and the beginning of its integration with the Self.

Renewal was intended as a time for those already practiced in these basic tenets of BSR® to deepen their experience and to recognize the evolution of the shadow figure or material already in consciousness as evidenced by the mask.

To confront a person with her shadow is to show her her own light.  (“Good and Evil in Analytical Psychology” (1959). In CW 10. Civilization in Transition. P.872)

In this workshop we will be re-newing our relationship to the Shadow.

• Choose to work with one of your masks to experience the shadow material “newly”.

• Choose to make a “new” mask of shadow – one knocking at the door of consciousness.

• Work with your mask of presence and your shadow mask creating a conversation between the stillpoint and your shadow figure.

In this way, we will “re-new” our connection to the Shadow by exploring and integrating its ever-revealing energy. We will listen to the dream’s resonance in the body, tracking where the energy wants to go.  A soul’s journey is never done – vulnerable, spiritual, human being always.

With enthusiasm and love, we invite you to join us in the work and in the play learn the facts here now.

In the Realms of Coatlicue: A BodySoul Intensive in Mexico

Mary Hamilton, Paula Reeves, Martha de la Garza, and Patricia Llosa
February 8-15, 2013

You are invited to explore the archetypal dimensions of your unique narrative within the framework of myth and fairy tale and the landscape of Mexico; the realms of Coatlicue. This work is based on the belief that psyche and soma, body and soul are one, and must be worked on together to become more conscious.  We will explore our own bodysoul by linking the worlds of dreams and body imagery, through natural movement, music, art, lecture, and discussion. This process enlarges our understanding of what it means to consciously embody the Sacred Feminine.

We will spend the week together, away from the usual demands of our everyday life and cradled under the majestic heights of the sacred Tepozteco Mountain.  In this peaceful setting, surrounded by rich vegetation, working individually and together, each participant will listen to her soul in her body and honor its needs, hopes, and creativity to discover and voice her authentic self.  We welcome all our past participants and hope that you will spread the word to your friends and colleagues as new participants are most warmly welcomed as well. We hope you will join us.

Prerequisites:

This program is open to women with at least 50 hours Jungian analysis or therapy and 50 hours active bodywork (such as yoga, tai chi, Authentic Movement, Feldenkrais, or 5 Rhythms bodywork that uses imagery and/or conscious attention) or consent of instructor

Location:

La Isla, Tepoztlan, Morelos, Mexico

Location Description:

La Isla is located approximately 90 minutes from the Mexico City airport.

Double room:
$2,000 for international participants (those who are not residents of Mexico)

Jung, Woodman, and BodySoul: A New Seminar

Mary Hamilton, Ann Skinner, and Meg Wilbur
March 11-15, 2012

MAIDEN, VIRGIN, CRONE – the Experiment of our Lives

Virgin is the Beingness in us.  The I AM.
She is the initiated maiden.
[Woodman, “Age” CD]

Within us is the way, the truth and the life….
Who should live your own life if not yourself?
So live yourselves.          [Jung, Red Book]

Oh, what do you plan to do with your one
wild and precious life?          [Mary Oliver]

Set in the Southern California wine country of Santa Barbara, we are excited to announce a new Seminar focusing on the work of Marion Woodman. Based on Jung’s original psyche/soma connection that spoke so deeply to Marion while she was a student in Zurich, the BodySoul Rhythms® program is the practical application of Marion Woodman’s theories developed by Marion Woodman, Ann Skinner, and Mary Hamilton.

Marion Woodman Foundation intensives offer an experience of initiation based on an ancient pattern of “descent and renewal.”  In this process the participant may engage in a passage into her own underworld; an encounter with her shadow energies (negative and positive); and a re-emergence to the topside world, re-invigorated, carrying a “treasure” of new life seeking integration.

This seminar is designed for those women who have completed at least two Marion Woodman Foundation intensives; or who have participated in one of the four MWF Leadership Training programs.  It is based on an experiential understanding of the BodySoul Rhythms® process, and Woodman’s pioneering work on “embodied Jung.”

Our lives are an “experiment,” Jung said, created by a transpersonal force which he called the Self.  He writes, ”You see, the body is meant to live; it has to be served, and your Self has a very particular purpose with it, presumably…. It is an entirely individual question.  Inasmuch as we are individuals, our experiment is individual, and the point of life is that this particular individual should fulfill itself.”

The seminar will explore the “individual experiment” of our lives.  Thus, it’s focus will be on you, the individual, particularly related to your responses and growth through BodySoul Rhythms® work.

What have your experiences of this process brought you, taught you?

What are the significant “stepping stones” along your path?

Do they guide you still?

Or are they overgrown with moss…. or lost in the mists?

How do you live your “maiden, virgin, crone”?

How do you re-vitalize, renew?

In examining issues such as these, the participant will have the chance to find an overview of her experiences in BodySoul, and through that, hopefully to find a new grounding or standpoint to launch into the future.  Voice, movement, and discussion are the channels for our explorations.

Morning discussion will draw upon readings from Woodman and Jung; in particular from Jung’s Zarathustra Seminars, and from Woodman’s Conscious Femininity.  We will also consider brief excerpts from Esther Harding’s Woman’s Mysteries, and Murray Stein’s The Principle of Individuation.  To allow the “theory” to be alive and personal, we will delve inwardly through writing and art; and of course through the body.

You need only claim the events of your life to make yourself yours.  When you truly possess all you have been and done which may take some time, you are fierce with reality.
Florida Scott-Maxwell

Let us become “fierce with reality.”

This Seminar qualifies as a make-up seminar for any woman from the Leadership Training Program who is completing requirements toward her Certificate of Completion.
