In Search of the Black Madonna: Encounters with the Divine Feminine-A Pilgrimage to Northern Spain

Statue-Madonna_Montserrat_web-2 copyCaring for the Soul offers this special program to study, visit, experience, and work with the energies of the Black Madonna as she re-emerges in our time.

Black Madonna figures can be found all over the world with hundreds of sites in Europe, many dating to the 12th century and earlier. The figures are ancient, powerful, beloved, and an integral part of their local landscapes and culture.

This 14-day pilgrimage will include some of the oldest and most interesting sites in northern Spain, some famous, some lesser known. After meeting in Barcelona, we will go to Montserrat and Zaragoza before exploring more special places throughout Catalonia. While in the Pyrenees we will seek out the madonnas of the mountains. We’ll spend our last two days on the Costa Brava to integrate the energies we will experience in this series of encounters with the divine feminine.

The program will be enriched with history, legends, and exploration of the presence and symbolic meaning of the Black Madonnas in their varying manifestations. Connections with pre-Christian goddesses and the Great Mother of pre-history will be mined for meaning. We will bring a Jungian perspective to our inquiry. Group sessions will deepen our experience through reflection, discussion, movement, creative expression, and ritual.

In her teaching, Judy identifies archetypes around us and focuses on relating to archetypal energies. She teaches how to bring this experience into body awareness and embodied consciousness. In this program, she will work with archetypes, including the Great Mother as represented by the Black Madonna, offering opportunity to interface with mystery, image, and embodiment.

We will see the beauty of the area as we travel through the countryside, staying in lovely Spanish hotels and enjoying the great food of the region. The pace will be unhurried with time to experience the atmosphere of the sacred sites. Enrollment will be limited to a small group.

The Black Madonna calls to us, intrigues us, and generates more and more interest in the collective. Who is she and what does she represent? Why are more and more people drawn to her and powerfully moved by their experiences with her? Why is she appearing in dreams at this particular time? Is there a spiritual thirst for the divine feminine in the world today? The mystery surrounding these questions will be at the heart of our pilgrimage.

Sandplay in Switzerland – A Two-Week Training Intensive for Professionals

Eiger Monch JungfrauThis unique two-week intensive is for those interested in Jung’s understanding of the psyche, want to deepen their understanding of Sandplay Therapy, and who would like an opportunity to work with embodied consciousness as developed by Marion Woodman. Join us for an opportunity to study and work in depth with sandplay, imagery, body presence, and your own creative process. Travel to Switzerland, stay in a lovely countryside conference center surrounded by the Swiss Alps, and live for two weeks with international master teachers and a community of like-minded souls.

This program offers solid sandplay training combined with complementary experiential work with art and body awareness. The program includes in-depth sandplay case presentations by faculty; small group and individual consultation/supervision; and Interior Rhythms: bodysoul work with dreams, movement, creative expression and ritual. The Black Madonna of Einsiedeln is nearby, and there will be opportunities to visit and explore her meaning.

The two-week format provides the opportunity to study at a depth not attainable in short courses. In Switzerland, we leave behind our everyday responsibilities and immerse ourselves deeply in sandplay and depth psychology. Learning in the environment where this work was developed creates a connection to the source. Switzerland itself is beautiful, magical, and enticing. This program is the experience of a lifetime! We hope you will join us.

Led by Judy Zappacosta and Patty Flowers. Additional faculty will be announced.
