Journal Writing Special Topics: C.G. Jung’s “The Red Book”

Marlene Schiwy
February 12-March 19, 2011

"My soul where are you? Do you hear me? I speak, I call you—are you there? After long years of long wandering, I have come to you again. Dreams are the guiding words of the soul. Why should I henceforth not love my dreams and not make their riddling images into objects of my daily consideration?"     The Red Book

Jung's recently published The Red Book is a beautifully illustrated personal journal of  his soul's journey over many years. This astonishing work reminds us of the importance of dreams and active imagination in our lives. Drawing inspiration from excerpts of The Red Book, we will explore how our dream images carry our essential life energy and potential. Class time will include informal lectures and discussion, writing and dream sharing. We will also watch a segment of The Way of the Dream with Jung's esteemed colleague, Marie Louise von Franz, and excerpts of the instructor's filmed interviews with Marion Woodman on dreams. No previous experience of journal writing or of Jung's work is required, however participants should read the instructor's book , A Voice of Her Own.
